Hello everyone, I'm Martin

I'm a street lighting designer from Perth, Trainee scrutineer for Motorsport UK (formerly MSA) and forum administrator for the mightycarmods forums.

Imported this car after VW really messed up the Up! GTi orders. Been driving the car about 6 months now - just had my tax reminder through the door. Due to go through its first MOT at some point this year, my deadline is 01/01/20.

This is my HA36 Alto Works!

Hello and welcome!

That's so cool! I had no idea if there were any of the newer Alto Works in the UK. Saw a few of these in Japan and totally fell in love! Would be amazing to see it in the flesh some time!

Thanks :)

As far as I know, it's still the only one in the UK. Costs about the same to get one here as the S660 - of which there are 3 that I know of so I guess that's the popular choice.

I'll keep an eye out for bigger meets near me, JDM Combe is a bit far!

Need to re-apply some underseal soon. It's actually pretty well sealed from the factory along the seams though :D

I think I saw 2 of the 3 S660s at Japfest this year.

Would definitely be a good idea to keep on top of the undersealing though! Krown rustproofing in the Midlands might be the best place for it. From what I understand, they offer the best underside protection using a formula developed in Canada to deal with their harsh winters.

Nice to see an HA36S in the UK, most likely the only one so far. I would guess it is a manual, none of that 5 speed robotised box rubish a lot of these have... :S
I've been thinking about importing one to add to my kei car collection for a while, but they are a little pricey. Maybe next year.

Would definitly like to see it in person. And maybe do a comparison with my 24years old HA21S.

Hmm yes they're a little bit expensive.

This is manual 5 speed with 4WD so it's the most expensive one you can buy. I got it at auction for £7400 with 36000km on it but the condition of it was like 360km lol.

OTR in the UK it was just shy of £15k.

A brand new one would have cost me £18k which was just a bit too steep for me.

I've got the spec sheet which I translated with help from a mate in Japan, I'll write it up in the Alto Works section.

The cheapest one i saw so far was £5600 for a manual 2wd. By importing it myself it would have been about £10K on the road. I'll wait untill that figure drops below £8K...

Was any modifications required to pass the IVA ? appart from speedo and fog light.

Nope, that's literally all it needed.

Lockwood international make the dial faces now for only £60, much cheaper than my £275!

So for the fog light, we stuck on an E marked square fog, once it passed the IVA we disconnected the drivers side reverse light and installed a red 21W bulb and ran that to a switch next to the traction control switch. :) so that way the car looks totally OEM from the rear.
